  1. Self control – Patience – Thoughtfulness = Tools for an effective dialogue.
    I often ask myself the following question before I open my mouth ” What will be achieved by me saying what I am thinking of saying?” If the answer is nothing, then I do not say it! If there are tangible benefits, then I will be telling them what I meant to. I will not be telling them things that I never wanted to!

    1. Well yeah. I do the same. But at times, it also leads to a lot of things ‘left unsaid’.. 😦 Things buried deep within us that we wish to say, but we don’t, we take a step back in the fear of hurting them. That isn’t honesty, is it?

      1. Sensitivity and honesty can be seen to be in conflict occasionally. Discretion/diplomacy is perhaps the guide here. I would suggest that your goal is to always be satisfied that you did the best thing given the circumstances i.e. Respect another persons feelings; don’t get involved in issues that are of no concern to you; ensure that whatever you say can only benefit the person listening.
