The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

*Spoiler alert*

  • “He’s a wallflower. You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand.”
  • “So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.”
  • “Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.”
  • “It’s just that I don’t want to be somebody’s crush. If somebody likes me, I want them to like the real me, not what they think I am. And I don’t want them to carry it around inside. I want them to show me, so I can feel it too.”
  • “I don’t know if you’ve ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for a thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist. Or something like that. I think wanting that is very morbid, but I want it when I get like this. That’s why I’m trying not to think. I just want it all to stop spinning.”

These were just five quotes from the book. But I’ll tell you what, you’ll be hooked on to this book right from the first sentence. I did. Okay, maybe you won’t. Different people, different opinion. But in my case, I felt the book, completely (and by ‘completely’, I actually mean COMPLETELY!) defines me. If you have read The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, then I’m quite sure that you are aware about Hazel’s obsession with the book AIA (An Imperial Affliction). So well, I have kind of the same attachment to this book. I’ve read it thrice already, and also read in between the chapters whenever I feel a need for a push. A push to ‘participate’ in life. And yes, this book never fails to motivate and inspire me! It’s one of my most favorite books.

Charlie, a young, handsome and introvert guy, who was sexually abused by his own aunt, finds it difficult to interact with people. He’s usually depressed. Being shy, he had a very few friends initially. But then, to vent out his feelings and also because he found someone whom he believes is different, that is, the kind of person other people look to for strength and friendship. That’s what Charlie said. And he began writing letters to him, about him, anonymously. Without revealing his own identity, Charlie wrote to this guy, all that he felt. About himself. About friendship, love, life, crush, etc.

Charlie’s life took a turn for good when he met Sam and Patrick. Charlie had a crush on Sam but she already had a boyfriend. By the end, these two – Sam and Patrick – proved to be the most wonderful people in Charlie’s life. They had their good days and their bad days. Ups and Downs. But after all that, they made Charlie feel ALIVE. And, I guess, that’s what really matters in the end. They made him feel that he wasn’t alone. He had them. Their trust. Their friendship. Their true and innocent love. And this is what actually matters!

The best thing that I felt about this book is that, Stephen Chbosky didn’t make it all sound like a typical, fairytale lovestory. Charlie didn’t get Sam as his girlfriend anyways. But he had learnt a hell of a lot of things from her as well as from Patrick. His last letter to his letter-pal is my most favorite one. Wherein he clearly states that, now he’s trying to ‘participate’ in life. I mean, whoa! This-is-Charlie-being-so-optimistic!! All in all, it’s a good read. You won’t regret buying the book. *wink*

  • “It’s strange because sometimes, I read a book, and I think I am the people in the book.”

The above quote is what Charlie says during one scene… Gimme a high-five Charlie! ‘coz this is EXACTLY what I’m feeling right now! I’m you! I’m Charlie! ^_^

I FEEL INFINITE

Misunderstandings..

Misunderstandings create a rift, Misunderstandings create a drift.

A rift so deep, steep and edgy, a drift so aimless, frame-less and foggy.

It makes one person an evil, draconian devil, and makes another an innocent lame saint.

But, I feel, misunderstanding itself is a devil amongst us, that creates a rift, a drift and a huge fuss!

Building up a person’s image, as it can be seen, is but a human nature..

Albeit, have you ever thought that, that same person might consider it a torture?

A few may find solace in speaking their heart out, to their confidant;

the other few may want to live life as a hermit, talking to their own inner-self.

Respect people as they are, or else it might create a war.

For every single person is unique, and misunderstandings only create a breach…

Strange Strangers

Strangers are so strange. Each day, we meet a new one. And each day, we forget an older one. Some of these stay in our lives for a very short duration, like a few days, or maybe a few hours or just a quick glance of an eye. While there are others, who ought to be in our lives a little longer. Maybe a year or two?

Be they with us for a short time or long; for just a glance or a stare; for the Earth’s rotation around itself or it’s revolution around the Sun; you ought to believe that, Strangers-teach-us-useful-Life-Lessons!!

Accept it or not, strangers give us their most honest opinion on almost every other thing. “They have nothing to lose”, you might say. True. You’re absolutely right. But once you’ve been slapped on your face (not literally!), won’t you rethink upon what went wrong and then improve yourself? Or would you rather prefer the fake encouragements of your so-called friends (no offense) and be satisfied? Left without any scope for improvement..?

Anyways, what I want to say here is that, yes, strangers can be rude or they could be kind; but we should all be glad for they exist. They have been sent into our lives by God to teach us a lesson. An important one.

Doesn’t it make your day, when, after a long, hectic day at work, you receive a sweet, kind smile from an eight year old  – a stranger – on your way back home?

A smile is a very powerful tool. It speaks a thousand words. This gesture, as small as a smile, is capable of lifting off the burden of the entire world – which we carry around, on our shoulders – within seconds. Suddenly, the words, Humanity, Kindness, Honesty cross your mind. You may think it was just another stranger… but wasn’t that feeling great? At that very instant, you start reconsidering your life. You start thinking about the actual purpose of your life (which maybe you haven’t thought about so deeply, for like the past so many busy years) , your needs, your luxuries and so on and on….. until…….

“HELLOOOOO…!!! ARE-YOU-THERE..??” …Until you hear these words. At first, you think you went unconscious for a while, but by then you feel everything is shaking!! Wait. What? Oh nooo!!! YOU-ARE-ABOUT-TO-FALL-DOWN AND LO! “AM I TALKING TO A WALL??!” Suddenly your eyes fall upon the confused face of your friend and you realize SHE was the source of those loud words and the shaking. You realize that you had been so engrossed with the strangers’ thoughts that you couldn’t hear even a single word of your friend’s constant blabbering!

Sometimes, a stranger makes you think even more deeply, than a friend does…

A few strangers enter your life to become friends. Others, come in as a stranger, become acquainted, become friends.. but eventually leave as a stranger. It’s life. You can’t stop anyone from leaving. But, make sure, you cherish the good, old memories you’ve had with them. *wink*

To all the strangers in my life- I’m glad that you all exist. I hope you are too… 🙂

A Caged Bird

She felt like a Canary in a cage. She tried spreading out her wings; but, at one particular stage, her wings hit the bars of the cage and the cruel reality – of her being trapped inside, within a certain boundary – came to show it’s face.

Disheartened, she recoiled, put down her head and sat at the corner. Dreaming about the day, when she would finally manage to set foot outside her boundaries, spread her wings out wide and fly high above the skies!

Love from a dog! <3

Dogs love us unconditionally.
You may find it hard to trust people; but with dogs, you don’t even have to think twice before entrusting them with your deepest secrets!
That’s the beauty of their souls. Their love. Their unconditional love.
If you haven’t yet experienced the love of a dog, then, I must say, you still have got no idea what “TRUE” love feels like..!
It’s a feeling that can never be explained. It’s truly heavenly!! *_* ❤

‘Curiosity killed the cat’, they said. But wait…

What if it was a Schrödinger’s cat?

Then, maybe we can hope that it’s still alive (until and unless you open the box, of course).

A Lie..

A tear rolled down by her cheek. Her vision blurred. And though she nearly chocked and couldn’t utter even a single syllable; She braced herself, put on a weakish smile, gave the slightest wink and spoke the smallest sentence, with the biggest lie, “I’m fine.”
